Literature

In both seventh and eighth grade literature classes, we will be studying methods of critical analysis including figurative language, story grammar, inference, author's style and craft, etc.  We will use stop and jots to help with comprehension.

8th grade-  After discussing our summer reading, we will be reading two novels.  We will begin with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J. K. Rowling.  We will be sorted into houses where good deeds will be rewarded, and where poor choices will have points subtracted from their houses.  The house with the most points at the end of the month will receive a homework pass.  We do many fun projects such as firebolt ads, patronus drawings, and more!  When we finish that book, we will read my favorite book of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

7th grade-  After discussing our summer reading, we will begin with a fairy tale lesson where we will  read, write, and act out a fairy tale.  We will then read two novels: Holes by Louis Sachar and The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton.
We have some fun projects to do with both of these books!

AR:  Students are required to read an AR book per trimester.  Due dates will be announced at a later time. Tests will be taken in the classroom on that certain due date.

Language Arts

Writing Lab-  Writing Lab will take place on Thursdays.  This is also when your vocabulary unit is due.  We will have spelling bees where students can win win points for their houses or teams. We will have a spelling and vocabulary test and then begin the writing lab. In Writing Lab, we will learn how to write five paragraph essays, stories, explanatory writing and personal narratives.  We will also learn how to write several types of poetry.

Grammar, Punctuation, and Capitalization-  These will be taught on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.  We will have tests and quizzes.  You will have a week's notice before all tests and quizzes.

IXL:  These will be assigned periodically.  You get to work for your grade; in other words if you receive a 94 on the IXL, a 94 will go in my book.  If you receive a 55, you will get a 55.  If you choose not to do it, you will receive a 0.  These are counted as a homework grade.

All assignments are written on Google Classroom daily!
