Service Learning

Service Learning is a very important component of our curriculum at Academy of Our Lady. It is simply part of who we are. All of our specific service learning projects will be based on the four pillars of our school: Faith, Knowledge, Community, and Respect.
We are a faith-filled community and we will use the knowledge we acquire to help others in the greater community.  We will respect each other and all of God's children as we embark on our journey to become the people God has called us to be!

The  Student Council recently planned a Color Day Fundraiser to support His Helping Hands. His Helping Hands is a grass-roots organization that serves those in need in Paterson.  Every Friday evening, a group of volunteers distributes a hot meal and breakfast, lunch and snacks for the following day to the needy.  They depend solely on volunteers and donations.  Thanks to local churches and individual contributions, this worthy ministry has been able to distribute toiletries and clothing as well.  As religion coordinator and Spanish teacher, this organization is particularly close to my heart as we can perform several acts of mercy-feeding the hungry and clothing the naked; moreover, many of those who avail themselves of these donations only speak Spanish.  It is a blessing to share God's love with those less fortunate than ourselves.
