Homework Policy and Procedures

There will be homework assigned on Monday through Thursday in the fourth grade. All unfinished classwork has to be completed as homework for the following school day. Students will probably notice an increase in homework and the amount of time they need to study. Over the weekend, students should read their independent reading books in order to reach a minimum of 12 points on Accelerated Reader (AR) by the end of each trimester.

Nightly homework will consist of:
-Math Workbook page to review the daily lesson (may also include worksheets, IXL, or textbook reviews)
-Science/Social Studies define vocabulary or worksheet review
-Language Arts Workbook page to review the lessons of the daily lesson and IXL practice
-Review for Journey's Reading Vocabulary and Comprehension Quiz each Friday
(All Reading Journal assignments will be graded on Friday.)

Homework submitted after the due date will receive a deduction of 5 points per day. Assignments with no name will receive a deduction of 10 points.

***Please note that homework activities can change, so check your child's Agenda daily to ensure you are aware of the homework assignments.

AR Requirements

All students must earn a minimum of 12 AR points each trimester to enhance their independent reading skills. Each chosen book must be a GRADE level 3.1 or higher. After each book is read, students may take an AR test either at home or during school. Each AR test needs to be printed out and returned to school or sent to me via email.

AR grades for the trimester will count as a TEST grade. The student's AR grade for the trimester will be the percentage grade for how many points they earned. (12 points / 12 points = 100%; 11 points / 12 points = 92%)

Students should give themselves enough time in the trimester to read a few books so that they have the chance to earn additional points in case they do not do as well as they'd hoped on a particular test.

Snack
Kindly ensure that your child has a nutritious snack with them daily. Our morning snack break is at 10:00 a.m. Unless it's raining, students will have their snack outdoors every day. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the current weather conditions.

Birthdays
On your child's birthday, you may choose to send in a small birthday treat to be enjoyed by all of the students. We will celebrate at the end of the school day before dismissal. Your child may also dress down for their birthday! If your child's birthday is in the summer, they may celebrate on their half birthday or on an approved day in June.
