About Mrs. Oselador Burke

I feel incredibly blessed to begin my teaching career at the Academy of Our Lady as a 7th and 8th grade Social Studies and Language Arts teacher. I have been teaching in a volunteer capacity for most of my life, beginning with Vacation Bible School when I was only in 8th grade. Throughout my high school years, I taught CCD at various elementary school grade levels, volunteered as a peer leader in my parish's Confirmation preparation program, and also as a peer tutor in my high schools branch of the National Honor Society. In college, I volunteered as an English as a Second Language tutor helping immigrants to improve their English language skills and to integrate into the community. Following my marriage, my husband and I taught 7th grade students in their first year of Confirmation preparation for several years. I am now extremely excited to begin teaching in a professional capacity at a school which values the Faith as much as I do.

I studied International Relations and Diplomacy, with a second major in Modern Languages (French and Spanish) and a minor in History at Seton Hall University, graduating with highest honors in 2016. Following an internship at Scottish Parliament, arranged through the University of Edinburgh, I decided to return to Scotland to earn a Masters in History in 2018. My professional background is varied, including an internship at Disney World, a position as an Historic Educator at the lovely and historic Ringwood Manor house museum, and six years working in municipal government administration in a variety of roles.

I am so excited to spend each day sharing my love for history and writing with young people who are still learning about themselves, their abilities, and their context in our world. I hope to approach these subjects through an interdisciplinary lens which demonstrates that all knowledge and all subjects are integrated into one whole reality, and ultimately come from and point to God. My aim is not merely to impart knowledge, but to give my students the tools, skills, and understanding they need to continue to question, learn, and grow in every stage of life. I want to inspire a genuine interest and love for the subjects we will be discussing and to encourage my students to take hold of their own education as self-motivated lifelong learners.

In our class, we will have lively but respectful discussions, explore the development of conditions and ideas which we take for granted in our time period, improve our writing skills and mastery of key grammatical concepts, and will immerse ourselves in the daily life of people who shared many of our hopes, fears, joys, and sorrows, but whose experience of life looked different from ours in so many ways.
