Welcome to Third Grade!

Welcome to Third Grade! The subjects that are included in our curriculum are Math, Reading, Language Arts, Spelling/Phonics, Social Studies, Science, and Religion. In third grade, we will also make the transition from printing to cursive writing.

In class, we balance our studies with class discussions, note taking, projects/crafts, and learning games that reinforce the concepts we are studying in each subject.  We also use technology in the form of chrome  books, promethean board lessons, and learning videos to help us retain the concepts we are leaning in our textbooks and workbooks. We will also learn about the writing process by engaging in creative writing projects that we proudly display on our hallway bulletin board each month!

In Religion, we often supplement our studies by reading Bible stories.  We also read a daily reflection and pick a virtue to practice for that particular day. Our goal is to serve and act like Jesus!  We engage in service projects throughout the year like making cards for our veterans and family members in our community that may need prayers and good wishes throughout the year.

Biography Day is the highlight of our busy year!  The students choose a historical figure from the past or present and read all about their lives and accomplishments.  Reports are written to reflect what we have learned. At the end of the year, parents and guests are invited to attend a Biography Day presentation where our students read their reports while dressed as their famous person.

Our third grade class will also host the Thanksgiving Prayer Service and the First Friday liturgy in January this year.  We are also planning a class trip with our fourth graders later in the year. Also new this year, our music teacher Mr. Palmerini will be teaching the third graders how to play the recorder!
