Who We Are

Academy of Our Lady, Glen Rock, New Jersey, is a Catholic elementary school co-sponsored by Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Ridgewood and St. Catharine, Glen Rock.

This Pre-Kindergarten through grade 8 school is part of the Archdiocese of Newark. The motto, “Building the Kingdom, one child at a time,” is lived out as each student develops his/her talents, strengths, interests, and, most importantly, faith.

The community spirit engages priests, faculty, parents, and students through their sharing, learning, praying, and serving one another, the neighborhood, and the world. The school is supported by the School Advisory Board, an active Home School Association, the Fathers’ Guild, and members of both parishes.

Academic excellence is marked by students’ accomplishments in competitions. The school’s strength begins with a dedicated faculty partnered with supportive parents and involved pastors.

Underlying the academic accomplishments is the dedication to serving others with a patriotic fervor echoed in the service learning motto: “In God We Trust: Serving Others as a Reflection of Jesus’ Love.” Academy of Our Lady follows a tradition of Catholic education since 1953 called St. Catharine School and staffed by the Sisters of Charity.

The school received Middles States Association accreditation in 1994 and reaccreditation in 2004. In 1999 the school name was changed to Academy of Our Lady to reflect the Broadening community of the co-sponsoring parishes: Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saint Catharine.

In 2013 we were recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. In spring of 2014 the school again went through the rigorous accreditation process by the Middle State Association. The Middle States team recommended us for reaccreditation and in the Fall of 2014 we received our formal accreditation certificate.  In 2018, we were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. The faculty and administration possess a spirit of volunteerism, as they tutor, serve on committees, moderate

Instruction is diverse and responsive to student needs using several methods and infusing technology across the curriculum. Together, the students, parents, faculty and alumni form a strong learning community focused on excellence, spirituality, and service to others.
