Class Rules and Requirements

Classroom Rules
Classroom rules help keep a positive classroom environment, socially, emotionally, and academically.  Students learn best in a welcoming atmosphere where they feel safe and heard.  I encourage students to be honest and share any issues they are having.  A student is expected to:
* Be Respectful
* Keep your hands to yourself
* Raise your hand and take turns talking
* Listen the first time
* Do your best
We're all in this together!

Rewards and Consequences
Each student has a sticker chart on their desk.  When a student completes their sticker chart, they may choose a prize from the prize box.  A student can earn a sticker by doing something nice for a friend, being a Good Samaritan, answering a difficult question, or for a personal achievement.  The whole class receives a sticker if we receive a compliment from another teacher or our principal :)

When a student breaks one of our classroom rules I have a private conversation with them to remind them of our rules and why they are important.  If a student continues to repeat the same behaviors a parent conference will be called.  Any student who harms another student will be sent to the principal and the parent will be called.  This behavior will not be tolerated.

Students who complete their assignments on time will be rewarded each week.  Those who fail to have assignments returned on time will not receive the reward.
Nightly Homework
Homework helps to reinforce what was taught in school, promotes responsibility, and teaches time management.  Each night (Monday - Thursday), students must read for their reading log, complete a math page, and work on their Superkids packet.  Math is due the following day (unless stated otherwise), Superkids packets are due weekly, and Reading Logs are due monthly.  Some assignments will be long-term and will need more than one night to complete.  Please keep track of the due dates and practice good time management in getting the work done without a rush.  IXL Assignments will be added later in the school year to reinforce skills taught in the classroom or to review for an upcoming test.

Please check homework folders daily.  Remove corrected work and any notes.  The fewer papers in the folder, the easier it is for your child to know where their work is.  If work comes home that is not corrected, it is possible your child brought it home by mistake.  Please do not throw it away, send it back to school.

Homework Pad
Students copy their homework into a homework pad (provided by the school) from our classroom homework chart.  Please read this each school night.  Students will note upcoming tests, missing school items, and last minute school announcements in their homework pad from time to time.

 Late Assignments
Each time a student fails to return an assignment on time it will be reflected on their report card.  They will also not receive the weekly reward and a note will be sent home.

 Test Folder
Every other week, after tests have been taken in school, a test folder will be sent home.  Please sign and date the sheet inside to show that you have seen the tests.  Please review the tests with your child and keep them at home.  Send the signed test folder back to school with your child the following day.

 Reading Log
Reading is very important.  Students should read every school night and fill in the Reading Log.  The Reading Log is monthly and counts for a larger part of your child's homework and reading grade.  Please keep the log up to date and turn it in on time.
AR Requirements
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a reading program that challenges students.  Students may choose a book read in school or at home to take a comprehension test on.  Students should read the book carefully and ask about difficult words before they take the test.  Students will be required to take at least one AR test each month at school.  This book should be grade appropriate and read on their own.  They may choose a book read in school or a book they read at home.
IXL Requirements
IXL is a program that assesses students learning of various skills in reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, and Spanish.  Throughout the school year, students will be assigned skills to be completed as part of their weekly/monthly homework.  Students are welcome to practice unassigned skills in school or at home as well.
