Good morning boys and girls Today is Thursday January 21st 2021 and I hope you're all doing well today Boys and girls today we celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Agnes of Rome St Agnes lived in the late 200's She came from a very wealthy family and she was known to be quite beautiful So beautiful in fact that many wanted to marry Saint Agnes but she had very strong devotion to God She did not want to marry. She wanted to devote her life to God This did anger some of her suitors and at the age of 12 or 13, she was martyred for her beliefs. On her Feast Day each year the Pope traditionally blesses two lambs Because pictures of St Agnes always show her with lamb which is the sign of innocence,  it is a symbol of Innocence So that I thought was a very interesting fact about Saint Agnes Today in the Gospel according to Matthew we hear about the Beatitudes Now many of you I'm sure have heard of the Beatitudes. I am going to do read you the reading today because I want you to hear about all the Beatitudes The word beatitude means happy or blessed and that's for a good reason because if we follow the beatitude we will be happy and we certainly will be blessed right So a reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew Then Jesus began to speak and taught them, saying blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earthth Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled Blessed are the merciful for they shall receive Mercy Blessed are the pure of heart for they will see God Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called children of God Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on My account Rejoice and be glad for your reward is great in heaven The Gospel of the Lord Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ Boys and girls, out of all the Beatitudes, which is the one that touches you the most today? Think about it  I think for me it is Blessed are the Peacemakers for they will be called children of God and I know first grade Mrs. Coleman's class has outside on their bulletin board that Beatitude. But I think especially during this time in our society we are all praying for peace In order to find peace we have to be peacemakers All right let us pray In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen. Loving God, thank You for teaching us the right ways may we accomplish the purpose for which You created us We ask this in Christ's name Amen In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen All right yesterday was our Inauguration, Inauguration Day and the question to you was Where, what city does the inauguration take place and what building? The city was Washington DC and the building is the Capitol building where the oath is taken is taken by our president Alright so here's today's question What kind of trees do acorns come from?
