About the Teacher

I have been working in the field of education for more than 25 years.  I taught at Blessed Sacrament School in Paterson, Bethlehem Early Learning Center in Ridgewood, and I am excited to begin my 18th year at Academy of Our Lady.  I received my B.A degree from William Paterson University with permanent certifications in Elementary Teacher K-8, Teacher of Nursery School, and Teacher of Art K-12.  I have also earned my certificate in Autism and Spectrum Disorders and Orton-Gillingham Multi-Sensory training.  I believe that as a teachers, we must also be life-long learners and have attended a wide variety of professional development workshops and studies.  Some of these workshop topics included Common Core Standards, environmental studies, language arts, and teaching children with learning disabilities.

My personal teaching philosophy is that children learn best when allowed to express themselves through their own creativity.  As a result, children in my classroom complete many projects that incorporate inter-disciplinary skills throughout the year.  These types of projects allow students to express their creativity and use critical thinking skills in all subject areas.  They also allow me to meet the individual needs of all of the children in my classroom.

In addition to teaching First Grade, I serve in the role of Building Supervisor.  I also held the position of Director of Set Design and Construction of our Theatre Arts Program from 2015-2020.

In April of 2017, I was awarded the title of Runner Up for the Magic Tree House Educator of the Year.  The contest is held nationwide and applicants must submit an essay along with supporting documents to show how they use the Magic Tree House book series in their classrooms.  One winner along with three runners-up are selected from a pool of thousands of applicants.  In addition to a monetary award for classroom supplies, I also received an autographed copy of all of the books released in the series!  I am honored to have been selected, and am excited to continue to use these books to inspire a love of reading and learning in all of my students.
