New Parent Guide
On the first day of school, the Home School
Association (HSA) sponsors a coffee/tea reception for parents new and old at the
playground. This is a great opportunity to mingle and get acquainted with
your child's new classmate's parents.
For the first day of school, the children wear
their summer uniform. This consists of the polo/golf style shirt, shorts,
white socks, and sneakers. Read the calendar or click
here for the rest of the uniform policy. There is a UNIFORM CLOSET
where you may shop for your child prior to ordering uniforms from Co-Ed.
The uniforms are in good condition and if your child's size is there, you can
really save!
In some grades, NUT cards (No Uniform Today) are
given for various reasons, i.e. participating in the gift-wrap fundraiser.
NUT cards are not permitted on the first Friday of each month
because the school will be attending Mass on those days.
Our Student Council often has a "Color
Day." For a payment of $0.50, which is donated to a worthy cause, you
child can opt not to wear his or her uniform; however, he or she does need to
look neat and presentable (NO T-SHIRTS are permitted but jeans are allowed). See handbook/calendar for
guidelines.

Please keep in mind some important dates in
September:
Saturday, Sept. 8 3:00-7:00 pm Family Picnic - Please join us for an afternoon of
fun and camaraderie at Wilde Memorial Park in
Glen Rock. Sign-up sheets will be
included in your teacher assignment letters.
The children have a 12:15 PM dismissal the first
Friday of every month. Parents are welcome to attend the school Mass that
day. Please see the newsletter for the time.
There are two class mothers assigned to your
child's class. She is a great contact person if there are any questions
regarding class activities, projects, parent volunteerism or field trips.
At Back to School night,
Thursday September 27th at 7:00 pm,
there will be a volunteer sheet available to sign up if you are interested in
helping out both your class mothers or with HSA activities and events.
The HSA meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday
of each month in the faculty room at 9:00 AM or 7:30 PM. Watch the Principal's
newsletter for changes occasionally occur.
Be sure to read your school calendar where
everything is clearly explained regarding policies and procedures.
Important dates are posted as well.
The school sponsors a Secret Santa's Workshop in
December and a Book Fair in the spring. Look for details as these events
approach.
Parents are welcome to attend any school assembly
such as those occurring during Catholic School Week, the last week in January.
If your child is absent, you must contact the
school nurse, Mrs. Egan. Her direct line is (201) 444-3890. You may
leave a message. When you make the call you may request that homework be
sent to the office so you can pick it up at the end of the school day.
A sibling, classmate, or neighbor can pick the homework up in the office as well
after dismissal. When you child returns to school, he/she must bring a
note explaining the absence.
Students bring their own lunches to school as
well as a healthy snack. There is an optional pre-ordered lunch program
beginning week of September 17th. Watch the Family Envelope for
further details.
The Family Envelope system is Academy of
Our Lady's effort to conserve on paper and to prevent families from receiving multiple copies
of the same flyer. On Wednesday of each week, an
envelope will go home with youngest or only child in your family. The
papers need to be removed from the envelope and the envelope returned to school
on Thursday. The Family Envelope only applies to grades K through 8.
The Before Care Program will begin on the first
day of school at 7:00 AM. The After Care Program begins the first full
week of school. If at any time a circumstance arises that you may need
these services, you may make arrangements in the business office.
The school doors are alarmed and the only entry
is the main entrance. Everyone must stop and sign-in in the office.
Please check out the rest of this website, and
The Link, our school paper, both of which contain a wealth of information.
The best advice we could give is to READ THE
PRINCIPAL'S NEWSLETTER which comes out every other week! It is there you will learn all you need
to know about the school's activities for the upcoming week. It is
distributed through the Family Envelope every other Wednesday. |
