Dear Academy of Our Lady Families,

As the Advent season is now upon us, I thank your children for creating the joyful spirit that is felt throughout the school hallways. Even our youngest shoppers at the Secret Santa Workshop understand the concept that giving is receiving and hopefully they are learning a bit of budgeting in the process.  Grade 8 asks your help in their December service learning project called the rotation project. Each classroom is collecting one item of food each day to be donated to the St. Catharine Parish Food Pantry. Our students are very interested and supportive of the 8th graders' efforts. Our Cub Scouts are hosting a Toys for Tots drive this week. Each day when I pass the collection box in the school lobby, I am inspired by your generosity.

Please join us in St. Catharine Church this Friday, December 2 at 9 am for First Friday liturgy planned by Grade 3 and celebrated by Father Bogumil. Keep in mind that school dismissal is at 12:15 pm and aftercare will be available.

Next Thursday, December 8 is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and school will be closed.  Kindergarten students look forward to Gingerbread Day on Friday, December 9.  Please watch for Report Cards which are distributed on December 9 as well.

On Monday, December 12, Father Gino is joining us at 8:15 am for a special prayer service in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Mark your calendar for Tuesday, December 13. At 7 pm,  all are welcome to St. Catharine Church for the Annual Christmas Pageant. Grade 5 reenacts the nativity scene while Pre-K through Grade 4 students sing Christmas songs for the audience. This is truly a special night for our school community and this year our Violin students will participate. The Band students invite you to the Christmas Band Concert on Thursday, December 15 at 7:30 in Community Hall.

On Monday, December 19, students in Grade 3-8 will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We are blessed to have Msgr. Ron and Father Tom and all the priests from Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Catharine Church join us in prayer.  On Monday, December 21, Grade 2 is planning our Advent Prayer Service at 11 am in St. Catharine Church. School will dismiss/close at 12:15 for Christmas break.

I am pleased to say that this year, the Pre-Kindergarten Breakfasts with Santa will be held at OLMC's Parish Center.  Each Pre-K class will receive details directly from the teachers regarding this change in location for the events on December 19, 20 and 21.

I know the upcoming weeks will be busy for all of us. Please take the time to join your Academy family for some of these special occasions.

Sincerely,
