SUMMER READING
The junior high required summer reading is S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders. The book and study questions along with vocabulary guide were sent home with each student on 6.16.08. A formal test will be given in September after class discussions on the novel. Two other books of the students choice are also required. One fiction and one non-fiction selection appropriate to thegrade level. Please record all books read over the summer on the record sheet.
EVERY 8TH GRADER MUST COMPLETE A FORMAL RESEARCH PAPER USING THE M.L.A. FORMAT AS PART OF THE COURSE REQUIREMENTS.
Eighth grade will start their research paper in January. A syllabus will be handed out with the specific requirements and deadlines. The students will learn how to write this paper following the MLA format for research writing. Correct parenthetical citations and documentations will be part of the Language Arts class. Every eighth grader must complete this term paper.

Read! Every night spend some time reading - the classics, a magazine article, an AR book, anything that interests you!!!!!
Required reading each marking period:
