Snack Time in First
Grade
Snack sent to school with your first grader should be
able to be sent outside. We encourage finger food such as fruit, vegetables or
crackers and a beverage. The snack should be easy for your child to manage on
their own. Our goal is for the children to receive as much outside exercise and
time to socialize with friends as possible.
Book Day in 1C
Each child will be given a day to bring their
favorite book to school to share with the class. Your child can read the book
or have Mrs. Coleman read the book for him/her. The story should be about 15
minutes in length. Following the story, questions can be asked or positive
comments will be shared. Look for a schedule in the upcoming weeks.
Surprise Box in 1C
Each child in the class will have a turn to take home
the "Surprise Box." Find something interesting to
"surprise" the class with. You must think of 3 clues and write them
on the index cards in the box. Bring the box and your clues back to school the
next day. Place the box on Mrs. Coleman's desk. We will share the riddles and
the surprise after lunch. Please do not bring an item that is expensive or of
sentimental value. All Surprise Box items return home the same day. Look for a
schedule in the upcoming weeks.
Scholastic Books
Throughout the year you will be receiving Scholastic
Book order forms. If you are interested in placing an order please turn the
order in before the date indicated on the order form. Please attach a check,
made out to Scholastic, to the form. Please do not send cash.
Clifford's Overnight
Bag
Each child will have the opportunity to take home
Clifford overnight. In the bag they will find Clifford, a book to read, and
notebook to draw a picture and write a sentence about their special time
together. Everything should be returned the following day.
First Grade Supply
List
We will be using the following list of supplies at
school. Please bring your supplies in a shopping bag or brown grocery bag
labeled with your child's name. Some of the requested supplies are for the
whole class to use during the year.

1 Fiskars student
scissors
1 Pink eraser
3 Boxes of 24 count Crayola
crayons
1 Box of basic
washable Crayola markers
4 Gluesticks
1 Elmer's glue 4oz.
3 2 Pocket
folders
2 Packs of 3 1/2x5 index cards (white)
1 Backpack-large enough for a folder and
lunchbox
(NO ROLLING BACKPACKS)
*The First Grade teachers will supply plastic boxes
for the children to store their supplies.
